A FAMILIAR ROOM SOUND
The hum of a fan.
Without the breeze.
How this fan sound is made
Our fan noise combines filtered airflow-like noise with a quiet motor-like tone and subtle movement. It is synthesized on your device, not recorded from a particular fan or appliance.
Because it is generated continuously, there is no audio-file loop seam or large recording to download.
Keep it simple, or add a layer
Play the fan alone for a steady, familiar backdrop. Mix in a small amount of pink noise to soften its character, or Gentle Rain for a window-side feeling.
Each layer has a separate volume control. The main volume adjusts your whole mix together.
A sound, not a real fan
This app does not move air or change the temperature. It only provides a synthesized background sound. Start quietly and choose the setting that feels comfortable.

A LITTLE CLARITY
Good to know.
A few answers before you settle in.
Is this white noise generator really free?
Yes. All six sounds, the mixer and the sleep timer are free to use. There are no accounts, subscriptions or audio ads.
How are white, pink and brown noise different?
White noise has equal power per hertz and sounds bright. Pink noise has equal power per octave, giving less emphasis to higher frequencies. Brown noise falls off more steeply toward higher frequencies and sounds deeper.
Can I mix several sounds?
Choose up to three sounds and adjust each slider. Try a little rain with brown noise, or a fan beneath pink noise. Selected layers stay silent until you press Play.
What happens when the timer ends?
The mix fades out over the last 30 seconds and stops silently. Pausing does not pause the countdown: the original finish time stays the same. Changing the timer starts a new countdown; No timer removes it.
Will audio keep playing with my phone locked?
It depends on your phone, browser and power settings. Playback may be interrupted when you lock the screen or switch apps. Installing the app does not guarantee background playback. Keep screen awake can help while the page is visible, where supported.
Are the rain and ocean sounds recordings?
No. Every sound is generated on your device. The fan, rain and ocean are synthesized, nature-inspired textures, not field recordings. No microphone access is needed.
